What is FLR(M)?
FLR(M) stands for Further Leave to Remain (Marriage/Civil Partnership). This is the application you make to extend your stay in the UK as a spouse or civil partner.
When to Apply
You should apply for FLR(M) before your current leave expires, usually no more than 28 days before the expiry date.
Eligibility for Extension
To qualify for FLR(M), you must:
- Still be in a genuine and subsisting relationship
- Continue to meet the financial requirement
- Have suitable accommodation
- Have lived in the UK for at least 30 months (2.5 years)
The 5-Year Route to ILR
After another 2.5 years on FLR(M), you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), which gives you permanent residency in the UK.
Application Process
Applications are submitted online. You'll need to provide biometric information and may need to attend an appointment.
